In the afternoon of Oct 10, on occasion of the First Asian Population Forum organized byAsian Demographic Research Institute (ADRI), Shanghai University, President Jin Donghan, at the invitation of ADRI, held talks with a delegation of International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis(IIASA) led by Academician Wolfgang Lutz, Director of the IIASA World Population Program, and with a delegation of National Nature Science Foundation of China (NSFC) led by Zhang Yongtao, Director of Division of Asian, African and International Organization Affairs, Bureau of International Cooperation, NSFC. The responsible leaders of the International Office, Scientific Research Office, Research Office for Humanities and Social Sciences, and School of Sociology and Political Science of Shanghai University also attended the meeting, where in-depth discussions were held on the issues including further cooperation between ADRI and IIASA, and joint application for major NSFC programs.
At meeting, President Jin Donghan welcomed the IIASA and NSFC delegations for their visit. Academician Wolfgang Lutz, on behalf of IIASA, thanked Shanghai University for the warm reception, and stated that IIASA would continue supporting construction of ADRI. Director Zhang Yongtao of NSFCalso expressed support for the cooperation mode between ADRI and IIASA, and detailed on the supportive role of NSFC in application for international cooperation programs and research programs. Then Prof. Jiang Leiwen, Director of ADRI reviewed the progression of the cooperation between ADRI and IIASA, and expressed appreciation for IIASA’s continuous support and NSFC’s support in the areas including international cooperation programs.
At the end of the talks, the IIASA delegation re-invited President Jin Donghan to visit IIASA in middle November for academic exchanges, in the expectation to deepen mutual understanding and explore the possibility of more cooperation in the future.
