The first Asian Population Forum on the Future Research Direction
of the Asian Population held smoothly
The first Asian Population Forum on the Future Research Direction of the Asian Population was held successfully in Gucun Park Hotel Shanghai from October 10th to 12th, 2016. Over 80 noted demographic experts and scholars from around the world were invited by Population Research Institute & Asian Population Research Center at Shanghai University (hereinafter referred to as the “Center”) to attend this Forum. The Forum consists of six topics, specifically, international population migration, domestic population migration, population and climate change, health and aging, Asia's demographic transition, One Belt and One Road Strategy and population dynamics. Experts and scholars in various fields exchanged valuable ideas with their counterparts concerning their own recent researches at the Forum.
On the morning of October 10th, ZHANG Wenhong, Dean of the School of Social Sciences of Shanghai University, chaired the Opening Ceremony of the Forum. At the Opening Ceremony, Ouyang Hua, Vice President of Shanghai University, ZHANG Yongtao, Director of Division of Asian & African Affairs of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, SUN Changmin, head of the Shanghai Population Association, Wolfgang Lutz, chairman of World Population Program at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis, Brenda Yeoh of the Asian MetaCentre for Population and Sustainable Development Analysis and Brian O'Neill, a research scientist of National Center for Atmospheric Research as well as Doo-Sub Kim, Chairman of Asian Population Association were all invited to deliver a speech. After the speeches, Director JIANG Leiwen expressed the warmest welcome to the arrival of all present experts and scholars on behalf of the conference organizer Population Research Institute & Asian Population Research Center at Shanghai University. At the Forum, Director Jiang Leiwen also reported to all attendees the development of demography in Asia since the inception of the Center in 2015; moreover, he shared his own views and opinions about the future development trend and prospects of demography.
From the afternoon of October 10th to the morning of October 12th, relevant research reports were made concerning all the six topics, which received active discussions of the attendees under the auspices of responsible persons. In addition to reports related to six topics during the day, the Center also organized one round-table meeting and four sub-forums respectively on the evening of October 10th and 11th. Scholars made further discussions on the issues such as institutional exchange, data cooperation and scientific cooperation and the like.
