The 28th World Population Conference was held in Cape Town South African October 29th, with more than 1,500 international academics and heads of government agencies involved. Leiwen Jiang, Baochang Gu, Samir KC, Yu Zhu, Guy Abel and Yu Zhang from ADRI, Shanghai University, Yingchun Ji, Ph.D student Amr Abdelwehed (Egypt) and Yingji Wu from School of Sociology and Political Science, Shanghai University took part in this meeting. The key issues in this conference are the continuing rapid growth of the African continent's population and various problems caused by them.
This conference is held by the International Union for the Scientific Study of Population (IUSSP) every four years. The purpose is to bring the attention of national governments, IGO, NGO and the public on population issues and taking demography as a science. IUSSP activities including the international population science conference held every four years, regional population professional conferences and various professional conferences focus on population, academic activities and organizing training programs, sponsoring population organizations in the least developed countries, publishing the proceedings of every population science conference and the research results of the subcommittee.
Professor Leiwen Jiang hosted "101 Sponsored Research Leader Session: Family planning, education, depopulation, and the environment" and "128 Population, consumption and the environment", also presented his research "Population growth, education, and climate change" and "Urbanization, Migration, Climate Change and Vegetation Coverage in China" respectively in"101 Sponsored Research Leader Session: Family planning, education, depopulation, and the environment" and "191 Environmental change and migration: Models and methods".
