Open position: Two Postdoctoral Researchers
Job Description:
l Under the leadership of Associate Professor Guillaume Marois, the two postdoctoral researchers will work on the NSFC-funded project: “The nexus of fertility, educational attainment, and labor force participation and its consequences for population aging in China”. The research project aims at reassessing the potential impact of changes in fertility on the consequences of population aging, taking into account the interaction of fertility behaviors, educational attainment, and labor force participation and its intergenerational feedback.
l Conduct high-quality research that aligns with the aims the project
l Publish in leading social sciences journals;
l Collaborate with the other researchers involved in this project;
l Participate in other academic tasks of the Asian Demographic Research Institute
l Have opportunities to develop own research agenda within the project
Requirements:
l Have a Ph.D. in demography, sociology, geography, economics or a related discipline. (Applications from doctoral students who are close to being awarded with the Doctoral Degree will also be considered);
l Have strong quantitative analytical skills;
l Have experience and knowledge in demographic analysis and population projections;
l Excellent oral and written English;
l Have a good publication record in peer-reviewed journals.

International Migration Pillar
Open position: One Postdoctoral Researcher
Job Description:
l Work in collaboration with scholars in the pillar led by Professor Guy Abel. Research topics include international comparisons of migration rates by demographic characteristics such as age, sex and educational attainment, estimation and projections of migration patterns, and international migrant integration in Asia
l Publish in leading demographic journals
l Explore external funding opportunities
Requirements:
l Have a background in migration studies with a Ph.D. in demography, sociology, geography, economics or a related discipline. (Applications from doctoral students who are close to being awarded with the Doctoral Degree will also be considered)
l Have strong quantitative analytical skills
l Excellent oral and written English
l For postdoctoral researchers, contracts length is two years
Internal Migration and Urbanization Pillar
Open position: One open position. Depending on his or her qualifications, the applicant may be hired as Full Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor or Postdoctoral Researcher.
Job Description:
l Develop own research agenda focusing on internal migration and urbanization in Asian countries
l Work in collaboration with other scholars in the pillar led by Professor Yu Zhu, investigating a range of issues on internal migration and urbanization, including (but not limited to) patterns of internal migration and urbanization; the mobility transition and the settlement transition; and international comparative studies of internal migration and urbanization (particularly in Asian countries other than China)
l Develop research for publication in leading demographic journals
l Be capable of teaching courses on the ADRI graduate program (not applicable if the successful applicant is at the postdoctoral level)
l Explore external funding opportunities.
Requirements:
l Have a background in the study of migration and/or urbanization with a Ph.D. in demography, sociology, geography, economics or a related discipline
l Excellent oral and written English
l Priority will be given to candidates with research experiences on Asian countries other than China and demonstrating an internationally competitive publication record in peer reviewed journals
l For postdoctoral researchers, contracts length is two years (with possibility of extension to 3 years)

About Asian Demographic Research Institute (ADRI):
Asian Demographic Research Institute (ADRI) in the School of Sociology at Shanghai University was established on July 1st, 2015. Building on formal demography, ADRI carries out international comparative studies on topics concerning population and sustainable development in Asian countries. ADRI currently is comprised of five research pillars, including Population and Environment/Climate Change, Human Capital and Development, International Migration, Internal Migration and Urbanization, and Aging and Health. Sixteen faculty members from six countries are now working in ADRI. The working language in ADRI is English. ADRI provides M.A. and Ph.D. programs in Demography for Chinese and international students.
