Background:
A Full Professor is sought to lead the Research Pillar of Aging and Health in the Asian Demographic Research Institute (ADRI), School of Sociology and Political Sciences, at Shanghai University.
The highly rated School of Sociology and Political Sciences at Shanghai University is one of only four ‘National Key Disciplines’ for Sociology in China.
The Asian Demographic Research Institute, founded in 2015 by the School of Sociology and Political Sciences, aims to be a leading centre for demographic research in the Asia region. Currently comprised of five research pillars, funding is in place for ADRI to grow to approximately 20 research positions, to be filled by a mix of Chinese and foreign scholars. ADRI is the new headquarters of the Asian MetaCenter for Population and Sustainable Development Analysis and offers M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs in demography. English is the working language at ADRI. Job Description:
The Professor will collaboratively develop and implement a strategic plan for the Research Pillar of Aging and Health at ADRI. He/she will lead the expansion and integration of ADRI’s research in the field of aging and health; build and promote the Institute as a credible, leading source of unbiased, science-based research and training on aging and health; mentor junior and mid-career faculty in research; teach courses on the ADRI graduate program and supervise graduate students; explore external funding opportunities and be capable of publishing research works in leading scientific journals in demography and other related disciplines.
Requirements:
The successful candidate will have a background in the study of aging and health, with a Ph.D., MD or other advanced degree(s) in demography, medical sciences, statistics, economics, sociology, or a related disciple. He/she should have a record of scholarly accomplishments such as publications and grants in aging and health research; experience of successfully mentoring junior research faculty and graduate students; and strong interpersonal, project management, and communication skills to facilitate the work of multidisciplinary and diverse groups.
Conditions of Employment:
Basic employment packages follow standard Chinese government guidelines. A contract length of four years is offered with long-term renewal if performance targets are met. Start date is negotiable. Post includes a heavily subsided apartment on the university campus and bonuses for lead-author article publications in SSCI and SCI registered journals.
ADRI will support suitable candidates with applications to Shanghai and national schemes for high-skilled researchers. These schemes further boost employment packages to match salary levels of equivalent positions in the USA or Europe.
