On March 26, 2026, a delegation from the China Population and Development Research Center (CPDRC)—led by Director He Dan and including Deputy Director Ma Aili, Director of the Data Laboratory Wang Ying’an, Director of the International Cooperation Department Zhang Cuiling, Researcher Tang Mengjun, and Assistant Researcher Gui Lin’cui—visited the School of Sociology at Shanghai University. The delegation held a strategic cooperation symposium with the Institute of Demography and the Asian Demographic Research Institute (ADRI) and signed a cooperation agreement. Dean Huang Xiaochun, Director Jiang Leiwen, and faculty members Zhu Yu, Chen Rong, Chen Chen, and Zhang Tiantian attended the symposium.

Dean Huang Xiaochun extended a warm welcome and sincere gratitude to Director He Dan and the CPDRC delegation. He briefly introduced the recent developments of the School of Sociology and the field of demography, and expressed his hope for in-depth future cooperation between the two parties in areas such as research collaboration and think tank development, data and technology integration, international exchange and academic dissemination, as well as talent cultivation and staff exchanges.

Director Jiang Leiwen then reviewed the foundation of prior cooperation and exchanges between ADRI and CPDRC. The two sides discussed specific directions and cooperation mechanisms for joint research projects on major issues of mutual concern, including medium- and long-term population development, population aging, fertility support policies, population migration, and urbanization.

At the signing ceremony, the heads of both institutions jointly signed the Cooperation Agreement. Under the agreement, both parties will fully leverage their respective academic strengths and think tank functions in the field of population studies. They will focus on major issues in population development, jointly conduct research projects, co-host academic events, promote the sharing of data resources, and establish stable mechanisms for faculty and student exchanges as well as joint talent cultivation.

The signing of this cooperation agreement marks a powerful alliance between two leading population research institutions. The Institute of Demography and ADRI at Shanghai University possess distinct strengths in population modeling and international comparative research; the China Population and Development Research Center has accumulated a solid foundation in population policy research, macro-level decision-making support, and data resources. By leveraging their complementary strengths, the two institutions will collaboratively advance the in-depth development of demographic research to better serve national and global population development strategies. In the future, they will also utilize this cooperative platform to actively participate in international population governance processes and jointly enhance the international influence of Chinese population research.
