In order to promote academic communication among scholars in the field of Demography, "R for Demography and IUSSP Workshop on Estimating Migration with R" was held at the Asian Demographic Research Institute of Shanghai University on 5 October 2019.
The five-day lecture series was mainly hosted by professor Guy Abel from the Asian Demographic Research Institute of Shanghai University. Scholars from China, Nepal, Indonesia, India, Philippines, Zambia, Korea, Thailand, Pakistan, Australia, Colombia and other countries participated in the communication. During this period, Sebastian Ruiz, from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, also gave a wonderful lecture and introduced the unique processing ideas of population migration data and related theories of demography and population migration to the participants.
During the lecture series, participants from various countries conducted academic exchanges on international population migration and R language as the core, and gained a further understanding of R language environment, more advanced and flexible functions of R in data processing and visualization and gained a deeper understanding of methods used to estimate international population migration.
This series of lectures not only promoted exchanges among demographers of various countries, but also made the Asian Demographic Research Institute of Shanghai University, an academic platform of population, further presented in the eyes of scholars of various countries, laying a foundation for more friendly and in-depth research cooperation in the field of demography in the future.
